Greek Cyprus launches exercises with France

Greek Cyprus and France on Monday launched search and rescue exercises focused on marine accidents and piracy from the Greek Cypriot port of Limassol after signing an armed forces cooperation agreement on Jan. 24.

“This is the first time an exercise of this breadth has taken place and, indeed, with a Cypriot helicopter landing on a French war vessel,” said Greek Cypriot Defense Minister Demetris Eliades, who attended the event, together with French officials. The exercises simulated marine accidents and piracy incidents that have allegedly taken place within the Greek exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and flight information region (FIR).
