French exchange student released from Turkish jail

7 August 2012 /AP
A human rights group says a Turkish-French student jailed in Turkey on terrorism charges after taking part in a left-wing demonstration and concert, has been released pending the outcome of her trial.

Turkey's Human Rights Association says Sevil Sevimli, an exchange student from France who has dual Turkish and French citizenship, was released from a prison in the central Turkish city of Eskişehir late on Monday after spending three months in jail.

The exchange student from Lyon was arrested in May under Turkey's harsh anti-terrorism laws and charged with engaging in propaganda on behalf of an outlawed leftist group.
