“Kurdish groups in Syria will speak from now on in a concerted voice to the international arena and will act in unison against the Assad regime. The decision to unite is an historic step for Kurds in Syria and the Syrian opposition,” Shivan Hussein, the SKNC representative in Turkey, told the Anatolia news agency.
The agreement amongst the Syrian Kurdish groups was secured following week-long negotiations in Arbil brokered by Massoud Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq.
Hussein said Syria's Kurds have also agreed to set up a joint committee called the High Kurdish Council.
The uprising against President Bashar al-Assad began 16 months ago and has continued as Assad is unwilling to meet the demands of the Syrian people.
