İstanbul State Theater takes ‘Yanık’ to Moldova festival

30 May 2012 /TODAY’S ZAMAN WITH WIRES
The İstanbul State Theater is taking part in an international festival in Moldova this week with a production called “Yanık” (Scorched), Turkish news agencies reported this week.

The İstanbul State Theater is putting on the performance on Friday as part of the International Festival of Living Arts, Biennial of “Eugene Ionesco” Theater, which continues until June 3 in the Moldovan capital of Chisinau, the Anatolia news agency reported on Tuesday.

“Yanık” is a Turkish adaptation of Lebanese-Canadian playwright Wajdi Mouawad’s critically acclaimed play “Incendies,” which tells of two siblings who travel to the Middle East after the death of their mother in order to discover their roots and find a long-lost brother.

Adapted into Turkish and directed by Cem Emüler, “Yanık” stars Emel Göksu Keleş, Fatma Öney, Murat Karasu and Iraz Yöntem, Anatolia said. The performance is scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m. at the Chekhov Drama Theater.

Mouawad’s “Incendies” was adapted to the big screen last year by Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, an adaptation that was nominated for the foreign language Academy Award.
