Women’s team gathers for Olympic qualifications

The women’s senior national basketball team convened in İstanbul on Monday for preparations of the qualification round games to earn a berth in the 2012 London Olympics.

Between June 5 and July 1, Ankara will host the qualification games. Five teams out of 12 will earn tickets for London. The national team started trainings at Abdi İpekçi Arena on Monday and continued on Tuesday. Speaking to reporters during Monday’s session, captain Nevriye Yılmaz said the team aims to be the first women’s basketball team to participate in the Olympics.
