Labor Minister Faruk Çelik, speaking at a meeting held with wide participation from many labor unions at the ministry in Ankara, said the negotiations will be finalized by May 29. Both sides will begin talks on May 2 and evaluate the situation concerning 11 sectors. The talks will continue through May 8. “If the negotiations are successful, an agreement will be signed on May 21; however, if there is no agreement by then, the board will settle the agreement on May 29,” he said. The negotiations, which will determine the financial and social rights of public employees, will be overseen by a commission which will be established on May 9. The commission’s work will be handed over to the board, which will consider the deliberations and begin its own discussions.
