18 April 2012 /TODAY'S ZAMAN
A train crash in Niğde province early on Wednesday left 12 passengers injured.

A passenger train running from Arifiye to Adana was hit from behind by a freight train while waiting at a station in Ulukışla district at 5 a.m. Five passengers in the passenger train and seven personnel in the freight train were injured in the crash, all of whom were taken to hospitals in Ulukışla and Niğde.

In a written statement released after the accident, Turkish State Railways (TCDD) said a crisis desk was established following the accident and reassured the public that those injured in the crash were in stable condition.

The TCDD noted in the statement that the freight train failed to stop at the entrance to Ulukışla station, subsequently colliding with the passenger train.
