Statistics show 114 Turkish security personnel were killed and 232 wounded in clashes with the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Forty civilians lost their lives and 18 were injured in terrorist attacks. A total of 174 PKK members were killed and 58 were captured in 2011 by Turkish security units -- including the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), police and village guards. Additionally, 158 PKK members surrendered to the TSK in 2011.
Terrorism-related incidents that happened last year included: terrorists surrendering, armed attacks, illegal demonstrations, mine explosions and raids.
Gendarmerie General Command statistics show that 25 percent of the Turkish security personnel who died last year were killed by mine explosions and 35 percent of those injured were wounded by mine explosions.
