Crocs beat İstanbul BB, Super League playoffs remain a distant dream

21 February 2012 /TODAY’S ZAMAN
Bursaspor, or the Green Crocs, beat visiting İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi in the last match of week 27 of the Spor Toto Super League at Atatürk Stadium on Monday night and garnered three precious points.

Coach Ertuğrul Sağlam went home a happy man, but the victory may not be enough to earn the Crocs a berth in the four-team playoffs at the end of the regular season. Bursaspor, the 2009-10 champion, is currently ninth place in the 18-team standings with 36 points in 27 outings -- trailing leader Galatasaray by 24 points, second-placed Fenerbahçe by 18, third-placed Beşiktaş by 13 and No. 4 Trabzonspor by 10. It may seem mathematically possible, but for Bursaspor to make the playoffs in April is now something akin to mission impossible. French stopper Alfred N’Diaye put the Crocs ahead in the 14th and Chile forward Sebastian Pinto Perurena doubled the score for Sağlam’s men in the 68th. İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi’s consolation goal came from Bosnia and Herzegovina lefty Edin Visca in the 90th.
