The baby, the youngest victim of the PKK attack, was buried in the Southeast province of Batman on Wednesday. The newborn died even before his family could give him a name.

A pre-term baby, who was delivered by a Caesarean section after his mother was killed in a Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) attack on Monday, died in the hospital early on Wednesday.

The terrorist PKK, which has recently been targeting civilians in its attacks, killed Mizgin Doru (35), who was eight months pregnant, and her 6-year-old daughter Sultan Doru. Immediately after the attack in the Southeast province of Batman doctors managed to save Doru’s unborn baby boy, who was being kept in an incubator at a private hospital in Batman. However, the boy died even before he was given a name.

With the baby’s death the number of civilians who died in the Batman attack increased to three. The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from all circles in the country. Batman Provincial Health Director Namık Kemal Kubat said doctors worked hard to save the baby’s life. “We are deeply saddened by this. Everyone did what they could to save the baby, but to no avail,” Kubat said.

A statement released by the Batman Governor’s Office early on Tuesday stated that terrorists opened fire on civilians and police in the Yavuz Selim neighborhood, killing Mizgin and Sultan Doru. Doru’s husband, her 8-year-old daughter and three police officers were injured in the attack, while three terrorists were also killed.
