PKK’s malicious attacks

Bugün’s Adem Yavuz Arslan asserts that unless the necessary steps are taken, it is likely that many more soldiers will die at the hands of terrorists. Arslan explains that the most important of these steps is to build strong and safe military outposts in the southeast region of Turkey. Following a terrorist attack in 2008 in Hakkari’s Aktütün district, the Housing Development Administration of Turkey (TOKİ) announced its plan to build 206 new well-structured military posts. But in the four years since, only 60 of them have been completed and none of these 60 posts are in critical areas, he complains.

Şamil Tayyar from the Star daily says that as the probability of the current Syrian regime’s coming to an end increases, new scenarios and calculations have come up. The tension escalating in the Middle East has created a new $120 billion arms industry and has led to new agreements over oil and natural gas, the formation of new military alliances and the establishment of new military bases in the region. But the main problem for global powers is Turkey’s position in this picture. On the one hand, being a model for Arab countries, Turkey wants to sit at a table with the US as equals. And on the other hand, it is further developing its economic relations with big powers like Russia. Recent attacks on Turkey carried out in areas close to the Turkish border in Iraq and Iran and the recent PKK attacks should be evaluated from this perspective, Tayyar suggests. In such a conjuncture, the PKK dreams of grabbing land from Turkey with an attempt similar to the Arab Spring and carrying the rebellious wind of the Middle East into Turkey.

“Is the PKK [the] only murderer of our martyrs?” Yeni Akit’s Ali Karahasanoğlu asks in his article’s headline, questioning if those who pulled the trigger were the only ones to blame for the eight security force members who were killed in Hakkari. He suggests that columnists, writers, politicians and activists who provided psychological support to the PKK by arguing that the PKK is entitled to seek its rights and to oppose the oppressive state share in their crime. Every bullet which PKK terrorists fire demonstrates just how merciless and heinous they are, but also with those bullets, the true colors of the PKK collaborators are revealed, he argues.
